Why Poland

The engineering capital of the EU.

Poland has quietly become the largest tech-talent market in Central Europe — more engineers than Germany, and salary bands that still make expansion make sense.

9% CIT for small taxpayers

Companies with annual turnover under €2M pay 9% corporate income tax on operating profits. Above the threshold, the standard 19% applies.

IP Box at 5% on qualifying IP income

Income from self-developed IP (patents, software, industrial designs) can be taxed at 5% under Poland's IP Box regime — one of the sharpest in the EU.

Enormous English-speaking tech workforce

500,000+ software engineers, most fluent in English. Deep specialisations in backend, cloud, ML, and cybersecurity. Salary bands remain competitive vs. Western EU.

Full EU single-market access

Free movement of goods, services and people across the EU. Full VAT membership. Zloty pegged to the euro trading corridor — predictable currency planning.

Low incorporation cost, low share capital

PLN 5,000 (~€1,200) minimum share capital. Online S24 formation available for many use cases, keeping setup costs down.

Estonian CIT option for reinvested profit

Poland offers an Estonian-style CIT regime where corporate tax is only due on distributed profit — powerful for companies reinvesting for growth.

Honest advisory

When Poland fits — and when it doesn't.

Not every founder benefits from a Sp. z o.o. Here's how we think about it on the first call.

Poland is a strong fit if you...

  • Are building a tech or engineering-heavy business
  • Want to hire your first EU-based engineering team
  • Are under €2M turnover and want 9% CIT
  • Have IP that could qualify for the 5% IP Box regime
  • Need genuine EU standing and single-market access
  • Are reinvesting profit and want the Estonian-CIT option

Look elsewhere if you...

  • Need the fastest possible formation (UK is 24–48 hours)
  • Prefer a jurisdiction where admin runs in English (Netherlands, Denmark)
  • Have very high margins and would benefit more from Hungary's flat 9%
  • Are optimising for the leanest possible ongoing compliance
Poland-specific FAQ

What founders ask us about Poland.

Traditional formation goes through notarial deed and court registration (KRS), which typically takes 2–4 weeks. The S24 online formation route can be faster (5–7 business days) but has limits on articles of association. Maja will recommend the right route on the first call.
No. There is no residency requirement for directors or shareholders. Non-EU directors may need to obtain a PESEL number for KRS filings — we handle this as part of formation.
Qualifying income from self-developed IP (software you built, patents you own) can be taxed at 5%. Requires clear R&D documentation, IP ownership traceability, and typically a favourable ruling from the tax authority. Maja will tell you honestly whether your business qualifies.
Poland has a strong culture of B2B contracting for tech roles, which has real tax advantages for the contractor and lower payroll burden for you. However, misclassification risk exists — Maja advises on structure and drafts contracts that hold up under scrutiny.
Registered address: €400–800/year. Monthly Polish accounting: from €150/month. Annual financial statements and CIT filing: €500–1,200/year. Formation itself: €800–1,800 depending on route. Exact figures quoted in writing after the first call.
